Today we opened the submission for the competitions this year. The deadline is June 30th (Short Films) and July 31st (Feature Films). From the last year, we have accepted VR films, GIF, and motion digital comics for our short competition. The 7th edition of the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival is held from Nov 20th to 23rd, 2020. Last year the festival received the record-breaking number of submissions: 2,191 short films (from 84 countries/religions) and 50 feature films (from 30 countries/regions). Among the winners were Acid Rain (Short Grand Prix, directed by Tomek Popakul), I Lost My Body (Feature Grand Prix, directed by Jérémy Clapin), Wandering Mouse (Japan Grand Prix, directed by Nohara Tsukiji), and else.

The New Chitose Airport, a gateway for the world to access Hokkaido and known as “Entertainment” Airport, has the 7th edition of the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival from November 20 to 23, 2020.
The New Chitose Airport is truly unique amongst its kind. The Airport also hosts a variety of facilities: a multi-screen movie theater, hotel, Onsen bath spa, arcade, shopping mall, high-quality restaurants featuring the unique taste of Japanese cuisine, and event spaces are amongst the many things that New Chitose Airport has in store for its visitors. By utilizing all of its unique attributes, and combining them into one eclectic embodiment, the airport provides a festival experience that cannot be replicated in any other environment. The last edition in 2019 attracted record-breaking 43,000 visitors, the highest number in the history of the festival.
The main event of the festival is the competitions. Last year the festival received 2,191 short films (from 84 countries/regions) and 50 feature films (from 30 countries/regions) . Acid Rain (directed by Tomesz Popakul) won the Grand Prix (short film) while Wandering Mouse (directed by Nohara Tsukiji) received the Japan Grand Prix. Grand Prix for Feature Film was awarded to I Lost My Body (directed by Jérémy Clapin).
The submission of all the competitions this year starts on April 20th. From the last year, we accept GIF, VR, and motion comics. In addition to them, you can submit movie installations with animation techniques this year. More information will be available soon at the official website.
